My Project

My students range from prek to fifth grade and attend a neighborhood elementary school in an urban ring setting. Many of my youngest students have never experienced a group setting or school environment and are having difficulty navigating social interactions and regulating their emotions. Some of my older students continue to have difficulty in a group setting after having missed many social development milestones as a result of school closures and virtual learning. By building a social emotional lending library I hope to embed the core skills of empathy, compassion, fair play, and social problem solving into the fabric of our school. These materials will help me teach those skills through stories in which my students can see themselves reflected in the characters.
