This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Being a child in school today is hard. Being a child going through issues with homelessness, poverty, grief, loss, and trauma is even harder. Students deal with big adult issues and struggle to process those big adult feelings. I want my students to feel heard and seen no matter what their situation may look like. Not only is this for students who may be facing these large issues but for every student to learn about what other families and kids may be facing and to move forward with kindness, always.
Students never know what may come tomorrow, but I want to be prepared with materials to support them through their journey.
Whether it is an inevitable or sudden change, children still need age-appropriate ways to cope with and process these situations. I am hoping to build my library with more diverse and relatable stories for my amazing student population. All the titles I have selected have been referred by other professionals and are appropriate for individual and small-group therapies.
