Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every day, my third graders walk into our classroom carrying more than just backpacks and school supplies. They bring their feelings, challenges, worries, and excitement with them. As a first-year teacher, I have quickly learned that before students can fully focus on academics, they need the tools to understand and manage their emotions.

I want to create a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to express themselves in healthy ways and in order to do that, I am hoping to build a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) space with resources such as emotion-regulation fidgets/tools, calming materials/books, sensory supports, and activities that teach students how to recognize, communicate, and manage their feelings.

Many children are still learning how to cope with frustration, anxiety, disappointment, and conflict. These SEL resources will provide them with hands-on strategies they can use when emotions become overwhelming, helping them return to learning with confidence and focus.

As a first-year teacher, I am building my classroom from the ground up and currently do not have these important resources available for my students. Your support will help create an environment where children can develop self-awareness, resilience, empathy, and self-regulation—skills that will benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.
