Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The goal of every early childhood education classroom is to provide young children with experiences that will help them develop the emotional, social, and cognitive skills needed to be successful, life-long learners. Before the academics, we teach young children how to manage and safely express their emotions through social emotional learning. This is not done by reading one book about emotions, playing a game, or drawing a picture, but is done continuously throughout the school day in all areas of the classroom. I am asking for items that help facilitate SEL through sensory and self-calming materials, as well as a soft rug for students to relax on, for our Peaceful Spot (an area of the room students can visit to practice self-calming skills). I am also asking for toys such as play figurines and furniture for our dollhouse, where students can act-out scenarios where they will have to use words to communicate and problem-solve with each other. Finally, the walking rings help students manage transitions and routines throughout the school day, which help with self-regulation. The ultimate goal is to provide students with various opportunities to exercise and develop their social emotional learning skills throughout the entire school day.
