My Project

With the support of SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) books and activities, we’ll close out the school year reflecting on the meaningful connections we've made with one another.

Friendship bracelets can be a powerful tool for building social-emotional skills and strengthening relationships among students.

Wearing a bracelet made by a classmate reminds students that they are part of a supportive community. Making bracelets can introduce students to pattern recognition, measurement, and sequences, all foundational math concepts. Older students can explore the engineering of different knots and materials or even incorporate simple circuitry (e.g., LED beads) to connect to technology.

It helps students feel seen, valued, and connected, especially important for those who may feel left out. Builds empathy and thoughtful interactions giving a handmade bracelet is a simple act of kindness and generosity. Using recycled materials, opens up discussions on sustainable materials science and reducing waste. We will add a challenge; to calculate the environmental impact of using recycled vs. new materials, or design biodegradable packaging for their bracelets.

In addition to friendship-building activities, having sensory fidgets available in the classroom is an important tool for helping students manage stress and anxiety. School can be overwhelming at times, and fidgets provide a quiet, non-disruptive outlet for students to self-regulate and refocus. These tools support emotional regulation and allow students to return to learning with a calmer, more centered mindset. Organizational tools like folders are equally essential—especially in classrooms with limited space. While binders may not be practical, folders help students keep their materials sorted by subject, encouraging independence and responsibility.

Even beyond this year, these resources will continue to make an impact. At the start of the next school year, they will help lay the foundation for a positive, inclusive classroom culture right from day one.
