My scholars are an inquisitive, creative, rambunctious group! They absolutely love to read, explore and weigh in on current events around the word, and love to do absolutely anything that is hands-on! They come to school each day ready to learn, ready to succeed, but also ready to fail and try again!
Our school is located in east Long Beach, California.
While our school is in a middle-class neighborhood, and our district helps provide basics, we receive less funding than schools that receive Title I funds. While I do my best to provide new books for my scholars to enjoy, it is not enough for 32 voracious readers. So, I am seeking a partnership that will help fund a library with new culturally relevant books.
My Project
My students love to read, and I enjoy plying them with new books that will spark their creativity, imagination, and understanding of the world around them. That is where you come in.
I would like to begin introducing picture books and short chapter books that foster compassion and awareness of a world outside of our small neighborhood.
The books I am requesting include a variety of titles that meet that description. Each week, children will take home a book in a bag, read the book, and research the material inside the book. Then, they will present their findings to the other students in our classroom.
Your help would mean that children would learn about the world around them in a meaningful way. Please consider donating to this project!
