My Students

My students love learning in different ways. My classroom is full of eager learners who have many different learning styles. I have many students who are English language learners. Many of my students are visual and tactile learners. My students love learning new things and creating things to show what they learned. They like to share what they have learned with other classes in our school. Science and social studies are the subjects that my students love the most.

My students also love using technology to increase their learning and to share what they learned.

My students continue to amaze me every day with their knowledge and love for learning.

My Project

Do you remember learning poetry in school? Was it as eye opening as it is for some of my students? Our poetry unit helps my students use their imagination in their writing. We start our unit by "putting on our poet eyes." We use sunglasses when we want to be poets and we take off our sunglasses when we are no longer poets. When we have our sunglasses on, we see things in a different way. A pair of scissors is no longer a pair of scissors, it becomes a shark chomping it's way through a piece of paper. I asked for many different objects in my project, such as glitter, pencils, q-tips, and gems.

These ordinary objects will be extraordinary when my students put on their poet sunglasses.

What will the glitter turn into? Fairy dust? Rain? or something else? I also asked for poetry books. I want my students to be exposed to many different types of poems. Something that I have seen in the past with my students during our poetry unit, is that some of my struggling writers find their voice in poetry. There are less "rules" to follow. My students can use their imagination to express themselves and the world around. The items that I am asking will allow my students to explore poetry and become poets themselves.
