Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom has always had a diverse population of students. I have bilingual students, who are learning our English Language and this year I also have students in a mixed classroom with second and third graders. With my students, comes a wide variety of learners and needs for my student population. My students are from a high poverty school and community and all receive free breakfast and lunch . Many of these students come from a low-income and often a single parent home where parents may not speak English or may be illiterate. On the positive side, many of our parents are supportive of their child's education and know it is a means for a better life. Despite these challenges and limitations that lay on my students, they often come to school ready to work hard and are always excited to learn.

However, learning becomes difficult when they don't have the proper tools to engage their learning and understanding- my students need an environment where the visual aspect of content is key.

My Project

Currently my students do not have a projector in the classroom. This makes it very difficult to show reference images, learning videos, or to project onto the board so that learning can take place whole group. Having a projector would help keep information that I am trying to share with students organized, they would be able to relate to their assignment when it is projected, rather than when I am only able to talk about what they are working on. A projector would make learning meaningful when showing exemplar pieces; which could mean better outcomes when they are completing assignments. My students need a projector- it is essential to their learning and educational experience.
