As a teacher in a low-income and high-poverty school, our students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, our students deserve exceptional learning opportunities and an extraordinary learning environment.
My students are creative, collaborative and full of spirit.
They like to move. They love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute our students walk in the doors of our classrooms, we focus on each student's potential and growth.
My Project
My students love to create, whether through maker's space-type projects, science experiments or art. This year, the art supplies I've purchased out-of-pocket are running low. We need to replenish acrylic, tempera and watercolor paint, as well as replacing worn brushes. I would also like to add pastel crayons to our colorful options with which to create.
These art materials will enable students to create meaningful art compositions that connect to content studies in reading, math, science and social studies.
Connecting art to content-area studies helps students to make right-left brain connections and helps all students to process in a creative way. Please partner with us in replenishing our art supplies!
