Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

There's no better way to understand something new than to see it with your own eyes and get hands-on! This is what I hope to do with my third-graders in social studies this year.

Social studies can be a very difficult subject for third-graders to understand because they can't always experience it. They are required to think in the abstract, a chore for many! Add this on top of being an English language learner, and the odds are stacked against many of my students.

This is why I am requesting the Native Americans, Landforms & Mapping, and United States Resource Boxes. In these boxes, students will find realia, models of real life objects they can manipulate. They will get to see and touch the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, totem poles, and various landforms. The boxes also include picture vocabulary cards, stories, charts, and other activities that allow students to explore social studies in a fun new way.

With your kindness and generosity, my students will get to experience social studies, not just read about it. What an amazing way to build an understanding of where our county has come from, the way it is today, and where it is going!
