My Students
My school is in a small town in Indiana near a large university. We have a culturally diverse school with many families coming from other countries, and I believe this makes our classroom incredibly special. My first graders are enthusiastic students who love to be challenged with hands-on activities and educational games in the classroom. Every child in my classroom loves to learn, and I incorporate a variety of learning strategies so that every child can reach their fullest potential.
My Project
Picture books are central to the learning that occurs in a first grade classroom. It is a time when students learn to read. Students listen to read-alouds, read to each other, and read independently. They use the words and pictures in these books to make meaning of the literature that they choose.
In order to support the emerging readers in my classroom, I am reminded that it is important for students to see themselves in the books that they read. The books that I am requesting will help me to offer more diverse choices for my students in the classroom library.
