Seeing Magnetism

My Students

I teach 7th and 9th grade science in an Urban school setting. My students come from a diverse backgrounds and have varying needs in the classroom. My students are excited to learn about the the scientific world and they are always keeping me on my toes by asking questions that make all of us think.

They are motivated by hands on experiences in the classroom and using tools that scientists use.

My Project

Covid has created many challenges in the classroom. One of many is getting students excited to be in school. They have gotten used to being at home and not communicating with their peers and getting their information just off of a computer screen. By creating hands on learning, students want to be in school. They are engaged with their peers and talking about what they are doing and analyzing results. These are the skills that have been lost by learning at home.

By being able to visualize magnetism it makes it real and exciting for students, not just a picture that they saw on their computer.
