Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work for a Title 1 school. Our students come from all ranges of socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school offers free breakfast and lunch to all of our students due to the huge need. Some kids aren't able to buy all of their supplies. I, like many other educators in the building, are working with a very strict budget and while we would love to provide our students with all the things they deserve and need to nurture their creativity, it is hard. This is especially true when we do not have the financial resources that other schools have. Donors help bring smiles to my students' faces every day through the donations made and the materials purchased through DonorsChoose.org.
My Project
Our classroom needs a color printer, there are so many times throughout the year that I have printed out their finished projects and various work and the black and white toner we use does not do the work justice. My students are not able to be as creative as they could potentially be because they know that the work will be printed in a gray scale. Our school and my self already have a very strict project that this type of resource would not be available t us without the support of donors. I would love to be able to showcase their finished products and work in color so that they can truly be proud of their work and their creativity in creating their finished product.
It would be so beneficial to my students to see the potential of their work, and to see it displayed in the room and in the hall in vibrant colors would allow them to be proud of their personal work.
A color printer would allow my students to have access to a form of technology they are not use to or may even have been allowed to use in other classrooms. We are 1:1 for Chromebooks so our students have plenty of opportunities to create and turn in projects that would be printed in color if we had this resource. We would also be able to have a lot of visuals around the room or in their binders that could help with the content we are working on learning. The possibilities are truly endless. I added an electric stapler so that the students would have ease in stapling their papers, and homework, we have come across some difficulties with our staplers currently being used and this would be so beneficial to students.
