Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school everyday with a smile on their face and ready to learn. They enjoy working together to make learning easier for all. I love how my students and I act like a family. We have our ups and downs, but in the end we are always there for each other.
Our school is located in a small south Texas town which was devastated by Hurricane Harvey almost a year ago.
My students are special because, despite the fact that many went through loss after the hurricane, they strive to be at school. Some are still recovering, some are living with friends or family, and some are homeless. Their determination and dedication to school through a tough time in their lives shows how much they value their education.
My students truly inspire me everyday to be a better teacher for them.
My Project
The main portion of my project includes a colored printer and toner so that we are able to have colorful visual aids in the classroom. Colorful visual aids are known to boost student engagement and helps me to better communicate complex concepts to my students. Colored print makes the content look more vibrant and easier to remember with something is associated with a specific color. In addition, colored print may help my students with special needs by improving the readability of the text. The other items I am requesting, the Kagan Mega Timer and the student mailboxes, will help with classroom management. The Mega Timer is an excellent multi use tool to keep students on task. The students mailboxes will help my class stay organized with our graded papers. Each student will have a box they will check once a week to take home their graded work.
