SEEd Growth

Help me give my students experience the fifth grade science core they deserve. Resources for the newly designed Utah SEED standards are critical. I want students to be given high quality content at their fingertips.

My Students

Many of my students are coming from low income homes with very little science background or current science experiences. They are leaving school to worry about many other problems at home with multiple siblings. Being 5th graders, they are being put in charge to help with other siblings in many aspects of home life. They need all the experiences at school because they will not receive them at home.

My students come in saying I wish I could do experiments at home.

My students do not have resources or the adult influence to be able to experience any type of science at home. They want to continue exploring outside of the classroom to make real world connections but are presented with major difficulties.

We are a unique demographic school in Washington County and city. Our student boundaries are extremely diverse and wide. We have 90% of students bussed in from a minimum of 20 minutes away. They love to engage with each other at school, but cannot outside of school because of our diverse boundaries. They love learning and want to continue discovering more content at home, but unfortunately it's unavailable for my students.

My Project

Fifth grade SEEd science standards are new in Utah. Students need all the exposure possible to high quality materials based on the SEPs and CCCs connected to the content. Students need to explore through Earth Science, Physical science, as well as Life Science and these materials will give them success.

Science instruction has been updated, therefore the latest materials will magnify students engagement with hands on learning.

Exploration isn't what students are exposed to in their homes, I want to make this experience possible at school! To infinity and beyond!
