My students need a classroom library that is filled with books that represent the various cultures, languages, and religions of my students. Through research I have selected 22 multicultural books that will help fulfill this need.
Imagine a classroom where students are excited, engaged and motivated to learn through interactive technology. A program that embraces a students' learning styles and learning preferences.
I teach 22 energetic first graders in a classroom where I provide many opportunities for students to get up, move, and have hands-on activities.
In my classroom, students have many opportunities to be in charge of their own learning and exposure to many different cultures!
I work at a large elementary school, with a wonderful staff. They are committed to engaging and inspiring students through creative learning experiences, as well as building a safe and collaborative environment for exploration where students are willing to take risks in learning.
My Project
Please help me expand my classroom library with a larger selection of books that highlight different cultures and religions. The books I have chosen are geared towards elementary students with vivid pictures and child centered messages. They will help promote class discussion on celebrating each other's differences as well as help my students to look beyond themselves and into the lives of each others.
Author Tytianna Wells Smith says, “Books must mirror the lives of readers…many students relate to the stories as they reflect on their lived experiences that connect their home and school identities.”
I am a strong believer that we need multicultural books in the classroom so that students can see themselves reflected in the books they read. By donating to our project, you will not only help provide quality materials that are researched based, you will ultimately help my students foster an appreciation of the world around them.
