My students need 5 Virtual Reality Headsets to help the videos in our science lab stations come to life and the extra large Post It Notes to document their findings on the walls.
My students are from a small, rural community in central Louisiana. We are an area full of hunters and fishermen starting at a very young age. Since this is such a tight-knit community, family and education are of high priority. Many of our teachers have even taught parents of some of the children; yes, this is a small community!
Being naturally inquisitive, they absolutely love hands-on activities like doing experiments and lab stations in science.
When it comes to technology, their thirst for knowledge is unstoppable. They support and challenge each other daily. Being so far out in the country, many students have no access to technology at home other than the basic phone, so I try to make sure they are getting that at school, as we know it's a growing need in this day and age. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year.
My Project
Students may not be able to travel the world and see the unbelievable sites that nature provides for us. However, with a virtual reality headset at a science lab station, they can do just that. When they put on the headset, they can see videos as if they were standing right there in the middle of the rainforest, for instance.
