My Students

I have enthusiastic students that love the ocean and all of the life that calls it home. These students are seniors and take Marine Biology as an elective lab science class. The lab science class fulfills graduation and college requirements. They are very concerned about the health and well being of the ocean. These are students that are well informed about today's issues concerning the state of the ocean.

Having the opportunity to observe marine life under a stereo-microscope sparks excitement and interest in a way that regular observations can't.

My Project

The opportunity to observes these animals and plants increases interest in the subject as well as expanding their knowledge of the curriculum. Some students observing living organisms in detail excites a passion in them for science. This class has introduced a career path that students had never considered a possibility until taking Marine Biology.

Stereo microscopes are ideal for looking at specimens that are too large for a compound microscope -larger plankton, sponges and corals as examples.

These microscopes can be used by other life science classes in my department such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biology and AP Environmental Science.
