Help me give my students a class set of 30 Borenson Hands-On Equation Balance models to build, explore, and make sense of algebra.

My Project

My students are seventh grade math students at a Global Studies magnet school, representing more than 40 cultures and languages spoken at home. They bring a wide range of experiences and perspective to our classroom and benefit from opportunities to see and make sense of mathematics in different ways.

My goal is to give every student a hands-on way to build , explore and make sense of algebra.

I am requesting a classroom set of Borenson Hands-On Equation Models that will be shared by my 120 students. We will use the models to work with the distributive property, solve multi-step algebraic equations, and explore area and perimeter. Students will connect what they build with the models to the algebra they are learning and use these concepts to solve problems based on real-world situations.

In our Global Studies community, hands-on models help me reach students at any stage of language acquisition by giving them a way to explore and demonstrate their mathematical thinking.
