My Students

This is a group of amazingly resilient and gifted young people who have been in the country for less than a year. Despite the many challenges they've faced, they come to school everyday ready to learn and support each other in the adventure that is the American school system.

They have created support groups that meet before, during, or after school and never shy away from the challenge of experiencing a new culture and asking for help along the way.

My Project

Many of our students bike to school and work. We just completed one project of getting new bike racks installed on our school campus, now students need reliable bike locks to secure their bikes outside while they are at school, when many of them go to work, and encourage them to explore their surroundings.

With these bike locks, students can safely leave their bikes outside instead of storing them in classrooms, closets, and the staff lounge.

Not only will their favorite modes of transportation be safe while at school, this will ensure a ride home from work, too. Biking has become a way many students bond and relate to one another in our community and bike theft is a serious problem we hope this project will mitigate.
