A priority this year on campus is student safety, which is made more complicated due to the transparent windows every teacher has in their door. With your support, I was able to order two window coverings for my classroom.\r\n\r\nThe clothing racks that you donated are already built and in the community closet with clothes hanging on them. All of our students have access to the community closet on a weekly basis and they are able to take home necessary supplies at no cost. We are continuing to use the whiteboard markers regularly to respond to questions in groups, take notes during listening activities, plan for skit presentations and play games like Pictionary to help with vocabulary retention - just to name a few of the ways that we use them. I've attached a few photos to demonstrate the kind of writing activities that my students do with the markers.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have been especially appreciated as they have helped to increase focus and attention when students are hungry. The cups have allowed students to use the water dispenser in my room so they don't have to leave the classroom to get water when they are thirsty. And the tissues have been especially invaluable during this winter season when so many students are getting sick!\r\n\r\nI am also using the timer on a regular basis to chunk work time in class which has been so helpful in a variety of activities, such as independent work and the vocabulary games we play in class. The bell is a great way to get students' attention as we transition from one activity to the next and I'm continuing to incorporate ways to use the books in my lessons. For their geometry final, students came up to the whiteboard to complete problem sets on their magnetic coordinate planes, and the dry erase markers and tools were super helpful for setting students up for success. \r\n\r\nSimilarly, in Algebra, students have been able to use the dry erase markers and algebra manipulatives to access key content needed for the Interim assessments. \r\n\r\nFinally, everyone has been having fun with the math posters: they are helpful visual anchors and the math puns make math more fun! Every student that received a new one has been so excited and take care of them as if it was their own.\r\n\r\nThe brand new saxophone straps have made it a better experience for our students since they have brand new padding. Instead of playing with old worn down straps, the students can be comfortable with their instrument and can focus on improving their tone on their instrument.
