Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students learn best when they can experience things first hand. Reading about rocks and fossils will not interest children as much as actually feeling different kinds of rocks as they learn about them.

My second graders love science!

They like experimenting with things to see how they work or what they are like. Reading non-fiction science and animal books is a great way to get background information, but to truly learn the material, my students need to do things, and feel things, and really get their hands dirty!

My Project

This year the teachers in my school district are trying to provide a more well rounded education for our students by ensuring that every student is learning science and social studies during the week. Students don't learn science best from reading textbooks though. They need to experience hands-on science in order to really grasp the concepts. I'm requesting books, science activity kits and centers, and rocks and fossils so my students can learn about soil and rocks, which is one of our second grade standards.

With these new materials, my students will be able to learn about one of their main science standards through hands-on experimenting.
