Second grade paleontologists are studying fossils and what we can learn from them about changes in the earth over time. We learn about fossils through narratives about paleontologists such as Mary Anning; the first female paleontologist recognized for her work.
Using the real tools that we have learned about in our research, including safety googles, brushes, picks and hammers, students will experience what they have reading about in real time.
Authentic hands on learning experiences create the opportunity for students to practice using vocabulary and develop oral language skills that support them as writers. Active learning opportunities leads to deep understanding and retention of new information. It is also the *magic* of this expedition and is an experience that students remember with joy for years to come.
