This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Giving all of Second grade an experience of a lifetime!
We are so close, 75% of the way there, please help us!!
My students need an experience of a lifetime and to have their dreams come true.
“The world is the true classroom. The most rewarding and important type of learning is through experience, seeing something with our own eyes.” –Jack Hanna
With your help, our students can be included in the same experiential learning which will have a powerful, positive, and meaningful impact towards their academic success.
Our entire staff has worked tirelessly to move our school from a school grade of a D to a B for the 2016-2017 school year. We are committed to continue this growth and fully intend to earn a school grade of an A this year. With your help we believe we can achieve this and more.
You can give our students an opportunity that is usually afforded to other kids in the county that they would not otherwise have. Our school has a very unique demographic; 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My Project
As I dive deeper into the standards SC.2.L.17.1 (compare and contrast the basic needs that all living things, including humans, have for survival.) and SC.2.17.2 (recognize and explain that living things are found all over Earth, but each is only about to live in habitats that meet its basic needs.) it is clear that experiencing Disney’s Animal Kingdom affords our students the ideal opportunity for real world learning. Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers a plethora of activities and exhibits that will allow our students to interact and experience animals, habitats, and interdependence in a way that the classroom experience could never compete.
A field trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom fully aligns with the second grade science standards outlined above.
Like Walt Disney once said “Our greatest natural resource is in the minds of our children.” Disney’s Animal Kingdom has many different lands that include different habits for their animals, all which have signage that identify and explain the animals’ shelter, food, and basic needs. After being fully immersed into these habits from all over the world students will be able to recognize and explain that living things are found all over the earth, and will clearly see and experience how each animal is only able to survive in its own habit that meets their specific needs.
I fully believe that this field trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom will not only fully align the learning to the two standards SC.2.L.17.1 and SC.2.17.2 but will give our students a grounded experiential learning opportunity that they otherwise would never experience. These memories will last a lifetime.
