My students need these supplies in order to create the projects for our fair. They need paper, poster boards and markers to make informative and vivid presentations.
All children in our Title 1 school have very limited supplies. These students were not given the same opportunities I have seen in the other more affluent schools around the city. We lack supplies and materials necessary to put on a fantastic, diverse, and culturally rich world culture fair.
100% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
In addition they live in one of the most racially segregated districts in the country. My students, who are predominantly African and Native American, are not given the same luxuries as the more affluent mostly Caucasian schools in Tulsa. My students do not have the same supplies or support to put on a great culture fair. In addition the history of race and culture in Tulsa is very rich and I would love for the world to hear the stories of our students.
My Project
I believe the supplies I have requested will allow our students to host a fantastic school fair. I am asking for paper, posters and markers so our students can have all the materials they might need in order to put on a great diverse and informative fair. Many of these students would not be able to afford these materials and I would hate for some of them to be discouraged from participation because of lack of supplies. With these supplies everyone could participate and not be worried about their pocketbook or the visual aspect of their project. They can use the paper, ink and poster board in order to dive deep into a topic and history and share what they have learned with the rest of community.
This project would allow so many of our students to really tell the world about their story.
North Tulsa has a long rich history of racial tension and crime. Our students will be able to tell the world their families story and the impact they have had on modern day Tulsa.
