After a few years with the upper elementary grades, I'm heading back to first grade! As you can imagine, an inviting first-grade classroom is MUCH different from that of a 5th-grade math classroom. It's often the little things in a classroom that can make all the difference.
I want my new 6 and 7-year-old scholars to feel comfortable learning--that means some calming sensory areas, fun games for indoor recess, visual math manipulatives, and necessary supplies that our families may not be able to purchase on their own.
Many of these resources can be used for years to come!
A sense of community within our classroom, knowing they have every physical material they need to succeed, and a happy place to calm themselves when they're having a tough day...these are the things that make a difference to a first grader. Happy students make a happy teacher! And a happy teacher will be the most effective teacher she can be a day in and day out for her students.
