Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a required semester long health class. Students learn about nutrition, social health, communication skills, decision-making skills, substance abuse, mental/emotional health and much more. I teach students the necessary skills to achieve positive physical, social, mental and emotional health throughout life. We participate in a variety of activities to enforce health enhancing behaviors.

I encourage all students to take ownership of their learning each day!

This is accomplished through giving students choices about tasks such as reading passages, unit assessments and in-class activities. My classes are full inclusion. I have students with individualized education plans, health plans, general education students, enriched students and gifted students scattered through all my class periods.

I love the attitudes of 7th graders. Students are discovering more about themselves every day. I work to help the students improve their role as a life-long learner by giving them the skills to take ownership of learning and to advocate for their educational and personal needs.

My Project

Student seating in my class is limited to traditional school desks with a few seats along the computer counters. I have students asking to sit on the floor, which is a great choice for many students, but I don't have the necessary materials for students to complete work while sitting on the floor. I have many students who need to be able to move around during class. Having the balance ball chairs, standing desks, and clipboards will allow students the opportunity for movement which can improve the class performance of the kinesthetic learners.

Allowing students various seating choices during class promotes academic performance and lets the students take ownership of the classroom!

Alternative seating options will greatly improve the success of my special needs students as well as my general education students. Donating to my project will help students to be physically comfortable in the classroom while being able to actively participate in class activities.
