Help me give my students a reading rug for flexible seating. I have 22 energetic third and fourth-graders who want room to read.

My Students

My students are from Milwaukee, WI. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and outside of the school. Some students enter my classroom with trauma and disabilities. I want to focus their learning by providing resources to support a caring, safe and welcoming environment.

Flexible seating will allow the children in my classroom to have a “soft landing” where they can relax and be comfortable whether they are reading, meeting in whole class, group work, or just taking a break to refocus.

My project will not only benefit my class of 22 students but hundreds of students in the years that follow.

My Project

My students need choice in seating to learn. A reading rug would create a space where children could relax to enjoy reading books. The reading rug will allow students to stretch out and get comfy.

Having had a reading rug in the past, I know what a designated space can do psychologically for reading development.

Children know and understand that the space was created for them to encourage a love of reading. Their motivation to read dramatically increases as does their willingness to try new genres and spend more time reading. Please consider giving to make our reading dreams come true!
