Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are excited to learn this school year! They come in every morning eager to fill their minds with new knowledge. They are fun, energetic and ready to face the new adventures that school brings. We spend our days exploring books, singing songs, playing hard and learning lots!
As a teacher in a low-income urban area, my students face many challenges in and out of school.
Many of my students also speak another language at home. This is something that can be a challenge, but we are working to utilize this to their advantage.
Their challenges will not stop them. They are hard workers who are dedicated to their tasks, whether writing their name or sharing kindly with a friend. They are capable of amazing things every day.
My Project
My students are currently sitting on the floor during their time in the classroom library. This creates a space that isn't always inviting and may be uncomfortable. Beanbag chairs and a comfy couch will make a more inviting space. These items are also easy clean which make them hygienic for young students.
Reading is such an important skill that we are learning.
My students spend time in the classroom library every day! I want this to become a space they love and enjoy. A comfortable and cozy reading space will help encourage the growth of strong readers in my classroom.
