Help me give my students Melody Music Chairs for a classroom designed for playing music! These chairs are used in most high school music rooms and theaters because they correct musicians' posture AND are easy to move from the classroom to the stage.

My Students

Berkeley is a community that really values music in the public schools! We have great musicians who sign up for music classes outside of their regular schedule, students who sign up for multiple music classes each year, and students who make room for music in their schedule every year.

Our students play in orchestra, band, jazz band, and guitar classes.

Our students are in grades 9 to 12, and many of them have been part of BUSD music classes since the fourth grade.

My Project

I often compare our 7:23 am music class to a yoga class. As my students strengthen their bodies and muscle memory playing their instruments, they also wake up their minds and hearts for the rest of the school day.

Our music students practice their parts in many different configurations: Full Orchestra, Strings/Band sectionals, small chamber groups, and our largest group which brings together students from 4 different classes into one mega-ensemble.

For this to happen, we often are locating and transporting chairs from 3 different floors of the music building into one large band room. Melody Music Chairs will be a super important part of making this possible!
