My students need the ball chair to help them focus because they have difficulty paying attention when working in a small/whole group or working independently. The chair allows for movement needed to stay on task.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I truly believe that the students attending my school are the best! The students I work with are always trying their best to achieve academically! I work with students who have disabilities and have active IEP's.

The school I am a teacher in has a high percentage of at-risk students in the building.

According to test scores; 4% of students are at least proficient in math and 14% in reading. The school has a total of 713 students enrolled. Of these students, 72 have documented disabilities, 50% are English language learners, and 88% are low income.

My Project

The ball chair will allow students with difficulty staying on task due to their disability, whether in a small or whole group and when working independently, to stay focused.

Studies show that students with attention issues are academically successful when allowed to move in the classroom.

The problem with students moving around at their own discretion is that they are more apt to distract their classmates. Flexible seating allows for constant movement with minimal distractions. The movement helps students to stay focused while working in the classroom. This benefits all the students that I teach.
