Help me give my students a trip to the South Carolina Aquarium to receive hands-on learning about the ecology and conservation of our beautiful Lowcountry.
This is a team project benefiting 4 separate classes. Each day in our classrooms is a new adventure. We have the privilege of working with an amazing group of students ages 5-12 with a varying range of special needs. Our students face challenges in the areas of cognition, speech, motor, visual, hearing, social and/or behavioral skills. Many are also directly impacted by Autism or Sensory Processing Disorders. This influences how they interpret and interact with the world around them. Their unique viewpoint has changed who we are as both teachers and parents. Our students challenge us to provide them with access to meaningful experiences and curriculum that will allow them to grow as future world citizens.
Our students inspire and guide our classroom teams as we work together to learn academic, social, and life skills.
We are a unique family that works together to meet each daily challenge head-on. No task is too large and no victory is too small. We love continually learning from our students as they show us the true meaning of perseverance.
My Project
We are very fortunate to live in the magical South Carolina Lowcountry. We have an amazing (but delicate) coastal ecosystem right outside our backdoors. In order to help preserve our environment and its animals, we would benefit from visiting a location where we can observe and have hands-on experiences with many of our state's natural wonders at once, the South Carolina Aquarium. Although the aquarium is located in Charleston, many of our students have yet to experience it.
The South Carolina Aquarium will provide us with the opportunity to observe our state's animals and their habitats up close.
By understanding our local ecology and our role in keeping it safe, our students will be able to become environmental ambassadors and contribute to conservation efforts for years to come.
