Sculpting Hands

Help me give my students an opportunity to create plaster molds of their hands. They have not had any sculpture experience and I would like them to experience how to creatively cast their own hands into a sculpture

My Students

Teaching in a high poverty school brings rewards and challenges to the classroom every day. We are not just teachers at my school but counselors, social workers, mentors, and, many times, their second parent.

My students come from many different cultural backgrounds, and we are at 100 percent poverty level.

I also teach students with many different disabilities including emotional impairments, cognitive impairments, autism, and physical impairments. They are all equal in my eyes.

My students come to art to learn, grow, create, and, often times, seek release.

My Project

My students will create a hand sculpture of their own hands using the plaster wrap. They have never had any sculpture experience and I believe they would enjoy it. It also gives them a three-dimensional experience, which they have not had. With most of our learning the last two years being remote, I would like them to get some real hands-on experience with the plaster wrap. This plaster wrap also gives them an opportunity to relate to their project by it being their own hand. Please help us to create these.
