My Project
This year we are fortunate to be able to provide boys' basketball as a sport at my school. The students are super excited. The boys talked for weeks about basketball tryouts and now that a team has been selected, everyone is talking about the schedule and the games. This year, we will have cheerleaders available to cheer on and support the boys’ team, but the basketball team is short of supplies. Team sports is a huge motivator in our school. Since most of our school come from low socioeconomic families, we need your help.
Our boys’ basketball team needs practice basketballs, a water cooler, a flip scoreboard, and skills training tools to help strength skill development and keep them hydrated during practices and games.
The water cooler is the easiest and most cost-effective way to ensure students stay hydrated which is important when playing sports in Miami. Also, we will be hosting games at our school, and we have no official way of displaying scores. The flip scoreboard is inexpensive and provides a way to communicate to the crowd and team their standing during the games. Also, our coaches can benefit from using a basketball clipboard during timeouts and a scrimmage set during practices to assist in skill building.
Being part of a team helps build self-esteem, leadership skills, and grit. Also, our athletes tend to improve academically and behaviorally because they learn the significance of being a student athlete who represents the school.
