This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 2019-20 sixth grade students are the first middle school students ever in our school! Thanks to a bond issue passing, we are adding a middle school one grade at a time. I am the first math and science middle school teacher for these students.

I am committed to providing my students with lots of hands-on opportunities in both science and math, often combining the two subjects in real world type problem solving.

My students will be encouraged to be inquirers and provide strategies and guidance in how to find out answers for themselves.

My Project

We have lots of experiments we would like to do around compounds and mixtures, but we are lacking the basic equipment like a bunson burner and test tubes to make this happen. We have also found ourselves running out of some basic school supplies like dry erase markers and pencils. In addition, our homemade whiteboards are not holding up very well so we would like to get these stronger ones that will last several years.

My students work hard to earn their hands on science days.

I love to engage them in the real work of scientists and I can only do that if I have the supplies. I buy a lot of basic materials out of my own pocket, but a chemistry starter kit is a little out of my reach on my own. I appreciate your willingness to help fund my students' educational needs.
