"Be the change you want to see in the world," Mahatma Gandhi said, and my students apply this quote in my classroom and dream big every day. ScienceSaurus is the up to date resource for our 5th grade students. They have hopes of researching and learning ways to impact their world today and beyond!
My students attend a high poverty level school of approximately 400 students.
They love to learn and are excited about science lab experiments! Our building is old but filled with love, joy and laughter as we learn daily. Our students represent the United States with their cultural and ethnic diversities.
Many come from homes where the average number of children in the home is 5, and as fifth graders, they are generally the oldest. My students are active, loving individuals who generally take on adult roles in their homes. I would like to provide them with new resources that are not falling apart.
My Project
To hear my students say "Are you doing lab today?" or "Science is my favorite subject" is rewarding. 5th graders are required to take the TAKS test this year and providing them with ScienceSaurus to learn the meaning of vocabulary terms is one way to provide an opportunity for success!
Students will be able to utilize ScienceSaurus as a research tool in order to learn the steps of the scientific method, the difference between molecules and atoms, and what the water cycle looks like. With Science textbooks not being up to date, the ScienceSaurus is our primary "text" to be utilized in our classroom.
Having only 4, somewhat complete softcover ScienceSaurus handbooks in our classroom, students do not have ample resources to research and take control of their learning.
With your generosity, students will be provided with an additional 15, hardcover, more sturdy resources to impact their knowledge of key science terms and vocabulary.
You may be funding the scientist responsible for finding a cure to cancer and all horrible diseases.
