Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year at our school, we implemented a program to limit the number of students in our over-crowded lunch room. Teachers were allowed to select a few students to eat lunch in their classrooms during lunch time. The reason for this was two-fold: increase our ability to maintain social distance while simultaneously limiting the potential for student misbehavior and potential fighting. Nationwide, there is an increase in in-school violence post-pandemic that we are attempting to mitigate in our high school. Over time, students learned that they could use my classroom during lunch time not only for a relaxing and safe alternative to the cafeteria, but also for an engaging lunch. Students use my classroom for makeup work, extracurricular work, and so much more.

The games I am requesting are for students who wish to remain out of the cafeteria during lunch to use for exercising their minds and enhancing their interest in science.

Giving students access to my classroom during lunch has been tremendously helpful for many kids. Students with anxiety in an overcrowded lunch room have a safe haven. Students who need a place to concentrate to complete work or study have a place to go. Students who want to remain safely away from the fighting and misbehavior among other students during lunch time have a sanctuary. What started as five students has grown to nearly 20! Lets give these kids some fun to enjoy during their lunch blocks!
