Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school's motto is based on preparing students for college, careers and life. The life part is where my class comes into play; this is the first year our school has implemented a Life Skills class.
The students I serve need training in how to acquire, manage and practice using skills needed for everyday life demands.
Many of the students receive additional support through speech, occupational and physical therapy. The average reading range for my students is on a first grade level and many struggle with phonics and comprehension.
My Project
This project will put science materials in the hands of students who need them to help bridge the understanding that science is more than just another subject in school. Because we serve students in a high poverty neighborhood, teaching students the importance of nutrition with the instant learning center, will bring this life skill to full focus.
The Discovery chest and Instant Learning Centers will give students more than just a workbook page or an image on a laptop to draw conclusions about the world.
With these materials, students can be teacher-led or develop self-discovery skills by working alone.
