Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright and caring students from a low income area in California. We are at a Title I elementary school located in a small farming community in Watsonville, CA. All of my students receive free or reduced rate lunch.
Most of my students are bilingual, with Spanish being their native language.
Despite many hardships, my students come to school every day ready and excited to learn. They work very hard and have helped to build a fun and caring classroom community. Their excitement for learning is inspiring and I'm so honored to be their teacher.
My Project
My students are constantly asking me if we can spend more time doing science. We will be starting a scientific journaling unit and these materials will be such a beneficial asset to science in 2nd grade!
With these magnifying loops, I am confident that I will be giving my students access to scientific tools that will help expand their thinking and wonderings.
The first lesson I hope to do with the loops will take place in our school garden. Students will be asked to spend some time finding something they would like to examine, and will then go through a series of prompts, answering what they notice, what they wonder, and what it reminds them of! I am so excited to get this learning underway and appreciate your help!
