This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are passionate about Science! They love learning how the world around them applies to life and who they are. We take the time to talk about anxiety, mindfulness, and we practice looking for 'Good Things' around us. I encourage my students to let these practices help them everyday.
Students are struggling to meet reading and math goals that also cross over into Science.
When I asked my students what could help them feel more confident and alleviate their anxiety, they gave me a list of items that I have included in my project.
I'm excited to help them get past the extra struggles the pandemic has brought to them. I want to boost their confidence and help them cope with anxiety, all while sharing some science.
My Project
My students told me they wanted ways to celebrate and feel important. Through more than a year of pandemic learning, students are struggling to catch up and assimilate. Since coming back to school after the pandemic has been difficult, these are items generated from student requests, as well as those that will help me meet the Nevada Academic Science Standards. They revolve around celebrating, coping, and learning science.
Students will use the materials in class to practice graphing skills, do hands-on labs, and get rewarded for their efforts.
In addition to helping my students bridge gaps in learning science practices, these items will help students research problems, analyze results, and make conclusions based on their observations.
Many of the items are motivational and will be around the room for all students to access. A little happiness goes a long way; I anticipate these items will bring a smile to many faces.
