Science is a dynamic subject where students get to test their ideas (known as a hypothesis) through rich hands-on experiments. Yet, my students haven't been able to do as much experiments this year as a result of limited resources.
The students I work with are bright, creative, and have so much potential if given the right resources.
I teach in a school in East New York, Brooklyn, and there are so many things that can keep students off track - violence, drugs, and problems at home resulting in being in the foster care system, etc..
In addition to dealing with so many problems, the students that I work with have learning disabilities. Without the right resources, these students cannot learn effectively and become lost in the system. Yet, my students come to class ready to learn, enthusiastic, and energetic. I want to give them the very best and need your help to do that.
My Project
With the microscopic slides, I can have students observe unknown specimens under a microcopy and analyze cell parts. Students will be able to apply what they learned about cells and identify cell parts like the mitochondria and cell wall. The graduated cylinders can be used to determine the volume of a substance as students are learning about density. Research studies show that students are able to retain content information more when they are given the opportunity to apply it hands-on. Without having the resources to conduct hands-on science activities in the classroom, this will negatively impact my students. Keep in mind that we are not picky!
Your help in donating the above listed supplies is greatly appreciated. Not only are you giving students the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking and research skills, but you are giving them the opportunity to consider fields in science that they might not have thought about.
Your donation will make a significant difference in the life of the students that I teach.
No one is born great, yet I believe you can become great if you are given the right resources. I want my students to become great. Please help!
