My students need science items like the simple machines activity lab, iron filing discovery disks, bar magnets, compasses, solar system items, and the electricity tub.
Our vision is to inspire children in poverty to greatness. We hope to encourage a love of life long learning. Our students have endured much hardship, and we hope to rebuild our community as well as inspire our kids to love school. Our Oklahoma town is recovering from an F5 tornado.
The students in my school are from a high poverty area.
About 90% of them are on free and reduced lunches. Many of them are from broken homes. Several of my students throughout the years have had a parent incarcerated. Adding to their challenges, is the fact that our community experienced an F5 tornado at the end of last school year. Our school is dedicated to improving the lives of these children, and we are working to inspire excellence in students and in teachers.
My Project
The children in my school do not have the resources to enjoy a lot of different experiences in this world, so our teachers must ensure that we give them many opportunities in the classroom. My students need compasses, electrical activities, magnets, prisms, solar system activities and simple machine activities to help them learn about science. These science resources will enable the third grade to learn about magnets, simple machines, light, and electricity. We will do weekly experiments, and science will be integrated within our reading program to enhance it.
Can you imagine experiencing the devastation of a tornado in your home town?
My students experienced this first hand at the end of the school year. The tornado came within blocks of our school and nearby neighborhoods were wiped out. We are rebuilding our community and improving our school in the process.
