This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school administration is sponsoring an overnight science field trip for our 5th grade students. Our students enjoy hands-on projects that allow them to apply what they have learned. They are inquisitive and work hard to exceed despite some of their challenges.

My class is very excited about this awesome opportunity.

Most of them have never been outside of the city or on a camping trip. Many of them experience hardship and difficulty at home. School is not only a place to learn but a safe and stable environment.

This trip will allow my students to engage in science projects that will enhance their understanding of concepts. It will expose them to new ideas and make learning fun.

My Project

The materials requested will be used for an overnight science field trip during the spring. The students will participate in day and night interactive science activities that will allow hands on experiences not available in the classroom. The day activities will focus on environmental and life science experiments. The night activities will consist of eating s'mores around the campfire, hiking and astronomy activities.

The sleeping bags requested will provide the students safe sleeping equipment to gaze up at the sky and sleep under the stars if weather permits.

We are requesting ponchos to keep the students dry in the event of rain showers during our outdoor excursions.

It is our expectation that all students will gain a better understanding of astronomy, environmental and life science through this experience.
