As a teacher in a low-income school district, some of my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges, they continue to greet me with a smile every morning and show up eager to learn. They are motivated and want to be successful students; they just need the right opportunity. Every student in my classroom is unique and has something to contribute to our classroom. Thank you for supporting these awesome students!
My Project
My students need basic science lab materials and instruments to engage in hands-on learning. Having a supply of thermometers, hand lenses, and safety goggles would mean more labs and student engagement. Hands-on learning will increase my students problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, as well as gain exposure to new materials.
My classroom is full of students that love to tinker, watch things that move, and observe things that change.
A magnet kit and iron filings for numerous small groups would increase engagement during our magnetism discussions. These materials would help make science FUN and a learning experience for everyone! My students enjoy the labs we currently complete, however, our supplies can run short which usually leaves us in large groups. With dissecting tweezers and a food chain learning center, I can ensure my students will have hands-on materials for this year and for years to come.
