Science Literacy Project

My 30 students need class sets of three fiction novels "Outbreak", "Saving Cascadia", and "Double Helix" that relate to our Biology and Earth Science units.

Books capture imaginations! Help us bring the power of reading to our science classes.

My students are sophomore Biology students and upper class Earth Science students.

We are in a rural area with students who see the power in reading; especially in science! However, we have so many students in this economy at present that cannot afford to get their own books. We need your help!

My Project

We are looking for classroom sets of three fiction novels. These books will bring the subjects to life as we use the novels as spring boards for class discussions on the science provided on their pages. Science discourse as well as teaching literacy in science leads to engaged students and improved grades across all subjects.

This project is important for our students because these novels will unlock the imagination, encourage a love of reading, and provide our students with different lenses to look at the subject matter with.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
