Our school serves students in grades K-6 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in our area every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college and have them career ready! My 4th-grade students are encouraged to work collaboratively, think critically, analyze, and synthesize information while completing project-based learning assignments.
Even though we are one of the lowest funded districts in the state, our students still excel!
My students are 33 culturally diverse children with varying backgrounds, abilities, and talents. They are students with individual needs and varied interests who come to school each day with the desire to learn and do their best. These children are always asking questions and approaching their work with confidence. It is a privilege to work with these aspiring scholars each day who demonstrate a growth mindset.
My Project
STEM is an educational approach that blends the learning of science, technology, engineering and math. Through STEM, students are able to problem solve, think creatively and critically, and demonstrate ingenuity.
In 4th grade, most girls say they like science, but by 8th grade, the numbers drop dramatically as girls lose interest and confidence in science.
This trend continues beyond school. Although women make up half of the total workforce, they make up only a quarter of the jobs in science and technology fields.
I am looking to provide books that will inspire young girls in my class and future classes that they can be scientists one day and pursue other related STEM careers! The novels I am seeking have strong female characters with varied personalities and backgrounds, who happen to all love the STEM field.
Next, the science kits are engaging and creative. They're chock-full of real science and there’s plenty of room for girls to draw their observations, doodle their ideas, and design their very own experiments.
I am hoping to empower strong scientific mindsets in young girls and create a positive impact on their perceptions about STEM as future career choices!
Thank you for your consideration to this project! We look forward to sparking young minds!
