As most of my kids are college bound, they are eager to be engaged and learn important skills provided by science. My students want and need the most relevant tools to use as they learn science.
They want to use and learn with the most relevant and current tools because they want to be ready for the world that awaits.
They are eager to collaborate, investigate, and to share their knowledge of the concepts being taught. Building a base of equipment to enhance STEM learning is a priority for not only me, but them as well.
We are in a big city and big school, but they love to connect in the smaller setting of the classroom. When they learn to work in small groups and have the tools to actually do and try the principles being taught, the more excited they get about learning.
My Project
Making the most of students time is extremely important. Often as students are creating visuals to support the science learning, they spend a majority of the time drawing pictures and coloring them. Technology has allowed for the use of cameras and other digital tools to help students time be spent more on the observing and doing and less on the sketching. Students can take a picture of what they see seeing during investigations and make digital enhancements to the pictures or create drawings more cleanly then what they could do on their own.
As amazing as the digital world is, there is an increasing need to be unplugged and have hard copies that can be used and handled.
Whether it is for a presentation, pages made for a class "I Spy" book, or preserving a visual learning experience for review later, I would like all students to have access within the class. A color printer and ink cartridges in the classroom will allow for students to print their work and not have to rely on what they may or may not have access to at home.
