When most people find out that I teach nearly two hundred 13 year olds everyday, they either look at me in terror at the thought or pity. Whether I am crazy or not, I love working with this age. They are just coming into themselves & figuring out who they are. I love to see their excitement when the light turns on and they figure something out. They are young enough to still get excited about learning. The first day of school, we did an inference/observation activity & they got to touch the ipods & ipads. It was the same thing i had done in previous years, just made digital. They were so excited & engaged in what they were doing. Find a way to connect what they love & they jump on board.
