The students from my school come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My school is a Title 1 school with a high percent from low income. The majority of parents are hard-working, two income, blue-collar workers while some students come from a single parent household.
The students arrive each morning happy and eager to learn at our school!
For many of them, school provides them with the opportunity to shine and a place where they can grow socially and academically. They enjoy coming to my art class excited and ready to get creative. It is my goal to help my students continue to believe that learning can be fun with art.
My Project
Our school has a large garden and I would like it to be a place for hands-on learning for students. I would like for students to be able to identify, draw and paint scientific representations of the plants and animals that they observe while in the garden. The purchase of paints and other art materials would be used to create diagrams, signs, etc for our garden.
After students have completed their scientific drawing, we will come back into the classroom to do further research on the plants and animals that they have drawn.
Students will add labels, and add onto the diagram with information that they researched.
