My Students
I work with middle school students from various backgrounds. All of my beautiful students have learning challenges due to disabilities. I love working with each and every one of my students. I love that every day brings a new start.
In most schools today it’s a struggle to get appropriate material for students with learning disabilities especially now that when we are required to work from home.
When I find just the right thing for one child it may not work for the others. I have to bring in lots of different things to support my students in their learning opportunities, and sometimes that means not just my lesson plans.
My Project
Mosa Mack Science is an online educational tool that can be immediately implemented in my online classroom. There are complete units for Earth/Environmental Science which I am teaching this year. The online lessons include student guides that help students work through and write out their ideas for each section of the lesson, and they can be leveled for students reading at different stages.
I know that Mosa Mack Science makes learning fun.
I have used the free units for years, but this year there is not enough free material to teach what I am teaching this year. I have watched my students in the classroom enjoying their learning about science because of the units in Mosa Mack.
In the class and online at home, students start a unit by solving a mystery about a science concept that is presented to them in the form of a comic video, then students will complete a hands-on lab activity, and then finally they will design a solution to the initial mystery. Students are given the opportunity to engage, take ownership, and have agency over their learning. Students will need to work as a team to solve mysteries and this encourages community building and Social-Emotional learning.
